Oval Iris Folding Card

Iris Folding Oval

Save the shape with lines and numbers-adjust the size to suit you-and print out onto a stiff card.

Cut out the oval shape.

Place the shape on the inside front of the card blank and draw around it.

Cut-out the shape just INSIDE the line.

On the front of the card blank lightly fix the shape over the opening you just made so that you can read the numbers and lines inside the card. You should only use a couple of small strips of sellotape to fasten the shape in place so that it won't mark The card when you remove it.

Chose 4 different shades of paper either plain or patterned.

Cut the papers into strips 3.5 cms wide. Just cut a few at first until you know how many you will be using.

Fold the strips in half length ways

You will need this chart to follow the order to add the colours.

Rename the colours to those you are using so that you know which goes where

First colour

1, 5, 8,12,16,20

Second colour

2,9,13,17,21

Third colour

3,6,10,14,18

Fourth colour

4,7,11,15,18,19

Use little pieces of sellotape to fasten the two ends of the paper and always have the folded end facing inwards. Work in the order of the numbers using the colours of paper from the chart.

Make sure that the pieces are over the edge of the shape and overlapping the one before. Any of the paper that overlaps the edge of the card should be cut off.

When you have added all the strips there will be a small shape in the middle that isn't covered -add something else to this shape so that it shows up. I used some silver paper.

Carefully remove the pattern from the front of the card. and see what you have made. I hope you are happy with it.

We need to hide all the mess inside the card now.

Open up your card and cut a piece of thick paper or thin card the same size as your card. Then cut off a small amount from the width and the length so that it won't show when you card is closed.

Fold this piece of paper/card in half to fit inside your card.

Add double sided tape all around the edge of the front of this lining.

Now lay the back of the lining onto the inside back of your card--these have no sticky on them at all.

Close you card and press down firmly in the front. Now open it up and press down the sides of the liner to cover up your 'mess.

The card is now ready to add your personal touches. I added one of my cardboard flowers that are in tutorial one.

That's you card finished and I do hope that you enjoyed doing it.
