| We bought a ticket that covered part of the North of England and could travel anywhere in the region on this ticket on 4 of the days. It was something we had never done before but we will be trying other regions in the future as there is so much to see in the UK if you go and find it. There are places of historic interest everywhere and some marvellous scenery. The first 4 days we spent on the west coast with my daughter Linda but then we travelled to lots of other places staying here and there then moving on to a new place. We visited Sheffield Art Gallery and the museum of treasure of Durham Cathedral but no photos allowed in either of these unfortunately. Some of the things in the Durham treasure collection have to be seen to be believed they are so old and well preserved. We took lots of photographs and here are a selection in slideshow format for you to see a little of what we did.
These are some of the stations we visited along the way-not all of course!
Whitehaven where Linda lives-it is on the West Coast of Cumbria
Our silly pics
Durham-the Cathedral here is one of the best in the UK and the whole place is a real joy to visit. The inside pictures were scanned from postcards that we bought as you weren't allowed to take photographs inside the Cathedral. There is also a castle but it is used by the University and they only have tours at certain times of day.
Bakewell is in Derbyshire and Knaresborough in Yorkshire. Both have a lovely old town and spectacular scenery. Knaresborough has a strange and fascinating tale attached to it you can read about it if you type Old Mother Shipton Knaresborough UK into your search engine I hope you enjoyed the trip.
